Podcasts, and why almost nobody converts them

A Spotify podcast downloader is a rare thing: most converters in this niche handle music only and reject episode links outright. Episodes go through the same pipeline here: paste a link to an episode and you get a file you can keep — useful on a flight, on a commute, or anywhere the connection is not worth trusting.

For speech, MP3 128 is usually the right pick rather than the default 320. The difference is inaudible on a voice recording, while the file is two and a half times smaller — and episodes are long, so that saving is real. An hour-long episode at 128 kbps lands around 55 MB instead of 140 MB.

Episodes are converted one at a time, by episode link rather than by show link. A show is therefore collected episode by episode, which is slower but keeps you in control of which ones you actually keep.

How to download music from Spotify

  1. Open Spotify — the app, or open.spotify.com in a browser.
  2. Open the track, album, playlist or podcast you want.
  3. Tap the three dots next to the title.
  4. Tap Share, then Copy link.
  5. Come back here and press Paste.
  6. Choose a format — MP3 320 is already selected.
  7. Press Download. No captcha, no account, nothing to install.
  8. Wait: one track takes seconds, a playlist a few minutes.
  9. Take the file — or the whole ZIP. Tags and cover art are already inside.

Private playlists have to be made public in Spotify first, otherwise the link opens for nobody but you. Converted files are kept for 24 hours and then deleted.

Doing the arithmetic on long episodes

Podcast episodes are long, so the bitrate choice compounds in a way it never does with songs. A weekly show at an hour an episode is about 55 MB a week at 128 kbps and about 140 MB at 320 — over a year that is roughly 2.8 GB against 7.3 GB, for audio that sounds the same either way.

Lossless formats make even less sense here. A spoken-word episode in FLAC or WAV is enormous and gains nothing: there is no musical detail to preserve, and the source is compressed speech to begin with.

The practical setup is MP3 128 for talk shows and interviews, and MP3 320 only when an episode carries music you actually care about — a live session, a mix, a scored documentary.

Questions

How do I convert a Spotify podcast to MP3?

Open the episode in Spotify, copy its link and paste it here. A Spotify podcast to MP3 conversion runs through the same pipeline as music, with one difference worth making: pick MP3 128 rather than the default 320, because speech gains nothing from the higher bitrate and an hour-long episode is 55 MB instead of 140 MB.

Can I download a whole show at once?

Not in one click — episodes are fetched one link at a time. Open the episode in Spotify, copy its link and paste it here. A show is collected episode by episode, which is slower than a playlist but means you only keep the episodes you want.

Which format is best for a podcast?

MP3 128. Speech carries far less detail than music, so the drop from 320 to 128 kbps is inaudible on a voice recording while the file gets two and a half times smaller. For an hour-long episode that is roughly 55 MB instead of 140 MB.

Is there a limit on episode length?

No fixed limit. Long episodes simply take longer to convert, roughly in proportion to their running time, and the progress bar reflects the actual encoding position rather than guessing.

Do episodes keep their title and show name?

Yes. The episode title, the show and the publication year are written into the file tags, along with the cover, so a long queue of episodes stays sorted in your player.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up, no email and no limit on how many files you convert. Nothing about you is stored beyond a server log entry that is dropped within a day.

Is it free? Are there limits?

Free, with no daily cap and no queue for paying users, because there are no paying users. Very long playlists simply take longer — progress is shown per track.

Which formats are available?

MP3 at 320 or 128 kbps, M4A for Apple devices, and FLAC or WAV when you need lossless. Most converters in this niche offer MP3 only.
